Intellectual property & pattern protection

Copyright Policy

This Copyright Policy explains how original website content, digital intarsia pattern files, illustrations, instructions, graphics and other protected materials associated with IntarsiaPattern.com may be used and protected.

Last updated: 6 October 2026

This Copyright Policy applies to original content made available through IntarsiaPattern.com, including each protected intarsia pattern, downloadable file, illustration, diagram, instruction, product graphic and original website resource.

Purchasing or downloading a product does not automatically transfer copyright ownership. Customers receive only the permissions provided by the applicable licence and product terms.

Section 01

Copyright Policy Overview

This Copyright Policy explains the basic rules relating to ownership and permitted use of original IntarsiaPattern content. Copyright protection can apply to original creative material whether that material is displayed directly on the website or supplied as part of a digital purchase.

The fact that digital material can be downloaded, printed, viewed or stored on a personal device does not mean that the material becomes free from copyright restrictions.

Copyright Policy for Digital Intarsia Pattern Files

A purchased intarsia pattern is supplied under the licence that applies to that product. The purchaser may use the file only in ways permitted by that licence. Copyright ownership remains with the applicable rights holder unless ownership is expressly transferred in writing.

Copyright Policy Quick Rule

You may use purchased files for permitted project purposes, but you must not assume that purchasing a download gives you permission to copy, resell, redistribute or publish the original digital content.

Section 02

Copyright Policy and Ownership

Unless otherwise stated, original content on IntarsiaPattern.com is owned by IntarsiaPattern or is used with permission from the applicable rights holder.

Copyright or other intellectual property rights may apply to original:

  • Intarsia pattern designs.
  • PDF pattern files and printable templates.
  • Numbered or labelled pattern maps.
  • Instructional diagrams.
  • Written woodworking guides.
  • Product descriptions and original editorial content.
  • Original illustrations and graphics.
  • Product presentation material.
  • Original website photography.
  • Brand graphics and other original visual material.

If content identifies another copyright owner or rights holder, the ownership information accompanying that material applies.

Section 03

Content Protected by This Copyright Policy

Copyright protection is not limited to a complete product. Individual creative elements may also be protected where applicable.

For example, a digital intarsia pattern product may contain several separate components, such as a printable template, assembly diagram, reference artwork, written instructions, layout information and supporting illustrations.

Copying only one of those components does not necessarily avoid copyright restrictions. The permitted use of purchased materials should always be considered under the applicable Digital Product License .

Section 04

Permitted Use of Copyrighted Content

Customers may use purchased material in accordance with the licence supplied with the product. For a standard personal-use intarsia pattern, permitted activity may include downloading the purchased file, printing reasonable working copies and using the pattern to create a personal woodworking project.

Generally Permitted

Using a lawfully purchased pattern for your own permitted woodworking project and keeping a reasonable personal backup of your purchased files.

Not Automatically Permitted

Republishing, selling, uploading, distributing or providing the original digital content to other users.

Any commercial, classroom, group, manufacturing or redistribution use must comply with the applicable licence or receive additional permission where required.

Section 05

Copyright Policy: Prohibited Uses

Unless the applicable licence or written permission clearly allows it, you must not:

  • Resell an original intarsia pattern digital file.
  • Upload purchased files to another website or marketplace.
  • Share the original PDF with friends, customers, students, club members or other users.
  • Include a purchased pattern inside another downloadable product, membership or bundle.
  • Publish a complete pattern on social media, a blog, forum or file-sharing service.
  • Remove copyright or ownership information for the purpose of redistribution.
  • Claim authorship of an original IntarsiaPattern design.
  • Sell traced, copied or substantially reproduced versions of protected digital content.
  • Create a competing digital pattern library using protected files obtained from IntarsiaPattern.
Section 06

Copyright Policy for an Intarsia Pattern

A digital intarsia pattern is provided so that the purchaser can use the design in accordance with the applicable licence. The ability to print, resize or work from the file does not automatically grant the right to distribute the underlying design.

Purchasing a pattern does not by itself transfer:

  • Copyright ownership.
  • Exclusive rights to the design.
  • Redistribution rights.
  • Resale rights for the digital file.
  • Rights to place the original pattern on another website.
  • Rights to license the file to another person.

For detailed purchase-use rules, review the Digital Product License .

Section 07

Finished Physical Woodworking Projects

Copyright in the original digital pattern is separate from ownership of a physical woodworking project that you create. Under the standard personal-use licence, a finished project may generally be made for personal use or as a personal gift.

Permission to sell finished physical products is not automatically included unless the product listing or another licence specifically allows that use.

Even where sale of a finished physical project is permitted, that permission does not normally include the right to sell, distribute or provide the original intarsia pattern file.

Section 08

Modified, Traced and Resized Patterns

You may be permitted to resize or make reasonable adjustments to a purchased pattern for your own permitted project use.

Modification does not automatically remove copyright

Tracing, redrawing, recolouring, simplifying, resizing, converting or otherwise modifying protected material does not automatically make the resulting digital file free from the rights associated with the original work.

A modified version that remains derived from protected material may still be subject to the original Copyright Policy and applicable licence restrictions.

Section 09

Sharing and Online Distribution

Digital sharing is still distribution even when no payment is charged. A purchased intarsia pattern should therefore not be uploaded or sent to another person unless the applicable licence permits that sharing.

Prohibited distribution can include:

  • Emailing the complete PDF to another woodworker.
  • Uploading files to Google Drive or another shared folder for other people to download.
  • Posting pattern pages inside social media groups.
  • Sharing complete printable templates in online forums.
  • Providing purchased digital files as a free download.
  • Reposting files on another marketplace or website.

If another woodworker wants the same design, they should obtain their own licensed copy through the IntarsiaPattern shop .

Section 10

Copyright Policy and Infringement

If protected IntarsiaPattern material is copied, uploaded, sold or distributed without appropriate permission, we may take reasonable steps to protect the relevant intellectual property rights.

Depending on the circumstances, these steps may include contacting the person responsible, marketplace operator, website owner, hosting provider, search provider or other relevant service and requesting review or removal of the material.

Nothing in this Copyright Policy prevents a rights holder from using remedies available under applicable law.
